The IsoSoccer Story: Making Orange Juice out of Lemons

The Iso-soccer story is indeed a fantastic one. I never imagined that I would ever create a game or launch a new sport. Serving as a substitute teacher was quite challenging but it also gave me a chance to be innovative. Out of my lemons, I think, I have made orange juice and I hope you like it. If for some reason, Iso-soccer is a lemon to you, I implore you to do the extraordinary and at least make lemonade out of it

The Iso-soccer story is indeed a fantastic one. I never imagined that I would ever create a game or launch a new sport. It started almost ten years ago after I graduated from Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At that time, I worked as a substitute teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools. One of the classes I taught was P.E. However, having arrived to the United States just a few years prior from Ghana, I was totally unfamiliar with most of the popular P. E. games the students enjoyed, so I began to devise my own games for the students, inspired by some of the soccer games I played growing up in Africa.

During that same period, my wife and I used to watch the popular reality TV series, ‘Survivor’ and it occurred to me that my games could be used as a challenge in a sports reality show, and so I began to work towards that goal. However, the more I worked on the concept, the more it developed and evolved into a unique entity. One Sunday, my wife helped me to come up with the name “Iso” from the Greek “Isos” which means equal, similar, or alike. Because while it shares some similarities with soccer, Iso-soccer is unique and significantly different in a cool and exciting way and we are glad to share it with the rest of the world.

The inspiration for Iso-soccer came out of my experiences as a substitute teacher in the Tulsa public schools system. Anybody who has ever served as a substitute teacher or had a substitute teacher at least once before is acquainted with some of the challenges involved. Sometimes it felt like a scene from the movie Lean on Me staring Morgan Freeman. Subbing was quite a challenging experience but it gave me a chance to be innovative. Out of my lemons, I think, I have made orange juice and I hope you like it. If for some reason, Iso-soccer is a lemon to you, I implore you to do the extraordinary and at least make lemonade out of it. Welcome to Iso.
